Just wondering if anyone else has tried protein powder (often used by bodybuilders, or as a meal replacement), and their voice got worse? Seems whenever I have a powdered drink...protein, Carnation Instant Breakfast etc, my voice has more spasms. Is it just me? --fancynancy--

Hi Nancy I don't think it's actually the protein drink that causes the SD spasms, I think it's the milk content. For me, anything that has milk in it gives me problems. So does orange juice. That type of drink immediately sticks to my vocal cords and gives me the sensation of them wearing tight fitting flannel pajamas - absolutely drives me nuts until I can manage to get them 'washed' off again. LOL Dairy products - the liquid type and also citrus drinks like orange juice tend to make you produce more mucus and that might be what is causing you to feel as though your SD spasms are increasing????? Hey Nancy, Probably not as much the protein powder(although there are some that would choke an elephant) as it is the sweetner used....it can produce a type of odd tickle in the throat....Give up the carnation and invest in a decent Powder...Hehehe....catch yaon aol soon!!!! |

Protein shakes? Tight fitting pajamas? If I drank protein shakes everything would be tight fitting. Besides producing an ever expanding waistline, milk drinks also produce significant phlegm buildup for me. Got milk? NO. I figured a milk based post would trigger a response from Madtaz...thought the cow had you by the tongue old boy. |

Ah, the Taz is back! The protein powder I used has whey in it. Even mixed with water, it causes problems for about an hour, then subsides. Hmmm... I'll have to check the ingredients in Carnation Instant Breakfast, etc. I haven't used the protein powder in awhile, and notice a little improvement. However, I haven't found my voice getting worse by drinking straight Cow Milk (Lactaid). Back to the Lab, for more experimenting... You're right, Gavin, too much of the protein powder does make a person gain weight. Then I'd have to deal with more Acid Reflux! --fn-- |
