It is also reversible. If you would like any more detail don't hesitate to contact me on the e-mail address provided. I have just had my first botox injections and nearly 3 weeks on the breathiness has gone but I would say I only have 85% good voice.... still very happy with this though. I have to fly from Hobart to Melbourne for the injections which is okay now but long term would be a pain (apart from the chance to do a bit of shopping!!!). How long did it take you to recover from the operation? I think they performed a few (maybe 15 or so) operations in Melbourne a year or so ago but I dont think they do it on a regular basis for SD patients at the moment. I have a bit of a tough time if i'm stressed - all my stress goes to my throat. I had the surgery done in Adelaide and wouldn't recommend anyone other than my surgeon, Neville Minnis - he is superb and he also trained with Prof Isshiki. The other option is Dr Ian Cole in Sydney who is getting very good results. It was not unitl I had a chat with a guy from Sydney with full-on ADSD over the phone that I really realised just how good my voice is - I thought I was having a "bad day" and he freaked out, and in turn I was freaked out listening to the effort he needed to put in - it was a wake up call - and at least the surgery gives a consistent voice and is reversible. It took 2 weeks of not talking to recover. They usually do the procedure when botox is ceasing to work for the patient or is a complete hassle (as in your case). I was only getting 6 weeks out of any botox injection and was up to 10-15 units each side. Happy to answer any more questions or to give you Mr Minnis' details - you can call and speak to him yourself about it and he may be able to recommend someone in Melbourne who is good. As I said I have only had one set of injections 2.5 units each side so they may have to increase. Even with my 85% voice life is A LOT easier!!!!
