Dear John,I've tried several devices smaller than the Chattervox, but the sound quality compared unfavorably for my use - I've got a weak, deep and breathy AB voice. Also, where the Chattervox operates for about 14 hours on an overnight charge, the smaller devices I found allowed only about 2 hours. I'm glad to hear that the Chattervox folks may be updating. The speaker/battery pack does look like something from another century (but then, it is, isn't it? hehe).
Most frequently, I use my device on a tabletop - desk, conference room, restuarant, etc. When I do wear it, I usually put the wire inside my clothes; I can put the cord down my back and then around to come out in the front at my waist to attach to the device.
I never think of myself as looking like an order taker. Actually, I've used the device so extensively that I don't think about it much at all. If I had to assume a mental persona, I think I would pick a recording star over the order taker image! (I hope people don't follow this post with a discussion of piercings.) Mostly, and more seriously, I think people's immediate impression is that the device is a phone. I've also noticed that headset wear is becoming so prevalent for enabling communication in many types of endeavors that people seem to pay less attention to it now than they did even just a few years ago.
Best regards,
Linda
