Gag reflex

When I had my first Botox a couple of weeks ago, I did a lot of unvoluntary gagging while the Dr. was injecting the anesthetic into the larynx, but was fine with the actual Botox injection. I had a very sore larynx for several days, and wonder if this is because I caused a lot of bruising by the movement of gagging.

Has anyone else experienced this, and if so, do you have any suggestions as to how to decrease the gagging? Carol

I gagged really badly on my second shot mainly because they "forgot" to give me lidocaine down the throat. Did you swallow any before your shot? If not, maybe request/insist upon it next time. I didn't gag at all with my first shot as I was pretty numb. I think it's very important to insist you are comfortable. The gagging didn't cause me to be extra sore. I was pretty sore for a day or so after the shot anyway. It felt like a light karate chop to the throat. It does go away. Although I don't need botox anymore, your question brought back my gagging episode and I could relate! Hopefully, you won't have to go through this again.

Good Luck!

Thanks, Candace,

I see the ENT again tomorrow, but don't know when he will vant to give me more Botox. My breathing and voice have both improved, but I'm a long way from "fixed". Carol
