Can Vitamins make a difference with SD or even Botox?

I have become a health nut lately. I stopped drinking milk, and even started taking Supplements. I take a daily vitamin, plus one of these - B6, B12, C, Zinc, Magnesium, Garlic, and even E. I read on one of the past posts that someone's Botox injection was messed up because she or he took a Vitamin E. I wrote to that person, and have not recieved a response. Should I stop taking anything because of possible interractions, or reactions?

Hi Paula, I don't know anything in regards to if vitamins can interfere with the Botox injection, however I read that you mentioned that you stopped drinking milk. I have heard alot lately about milk not being good for us, due to all the hormones ect. in it. I also saw on Oprah the other day that a popular psychic told a women that her grandaughters neurological disorder was from dairy including all lactose products. She was told to take her off all of dairy. I thought well since SD is considered a neurological disoder, maybe stopping all dairy intake would help? It sounds strange in a way, and this girl's problem wasn't specified, it was just said that she had a few different neuro. problems( not that I beleive in Psychics, but for me with SD any input that makes sense and may help my SD, I will try it.)--Mandy-Los Angeles, CA

I am lactose intolerant and have been since childhood. I consume no milk whatsoever (to the point that I won't even eat bread if butter is listed in the ingredients). Unfortunately, my 100% dairy-free diet has done nil to help my SD.

Laurie, I'm so glad you posted that info. I was
beginning to think if milk and dairy are bad, then maybe
beef/meat itself would be affected as well. Are there
any vegetarians out there who have any kind of Dystonia?

I know someone in my support group is a vegetarian.

Hope that helps,

Thanks, Laurie. It is reasonable that the Research
Foundation has studied things as simple as foods, dairy,
meat, etc. as contributors to any of the Dystonias.
We are all just so desperate to find any answers, aren't we?
Best wishes to everyone today!! Marilee

Hi Mandy and Laurie, This is the second time I stopped drinking milk. After over 30 years of drinking it, I started reading about how bad it was, and realized that I was lactose intolerant. I actually like the taste of milk, unfortunately, but not drinking it makes me feel better. The first time I stopped I became pregnant, and was told to start again, to make my daughter's bones strong. I stopped again after nursing her. I drink a lot more juice, water, and even pop now. I honestly don't think what we drink effects are neurological disorders. Yet, to each his own.. Do what makes you feel good.

Take Care,

Paula from Chicago

I know Vitamin E is a blood thinner, along with aspirin, and should not be taken for a couple of weeks before and after botox injections. B6 shouldn't be taken in larger quantities than 50 mg a day by anybody and zinc should be increased 2 weeks prior to and after botox injections (the latter was told us at a BEB conference a few years back) as this is necessary to make the botox works as well as possible. That's all i can tell you.

Thank you for your help regarding the supplements, or even vitamins. I tossed the E, and I'll try to remember about the Zinc. :)

June, do you happen to know how much more zinc we should
take? I have Botox scheduled in 2 wks., so will stop the
E and aspirin for sure. I am taking Centrum silver
multi-vitamins which has 15 mg. of zinc. How much more
should I take, if you know? I get Botox for bleph,
CD, Meige's and AD/SD. I noiced that the last imjections
were not as effective for my eyes as usual, so maybe the
zinc will help. Thanks. Marilee

I e-mailed you about this Marilee, but I'll post it here so others will know. I take 50 mg of zinc 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after botox injections. A doctor at a BEBRF conference years ago mentioned this and, as you know, not too many doctors advise taking vitamins, so my ears perked up! I can'tpromise it will help but its worth a try.
