I am getting ready to have a baby in a few weeks & have found it extremely difficult to get through this pregnancy without a botox injection. I'd really like to breastfeed but now am advised against it with Botox so I don't know what to do. I have been so anxious to get an injection after the baby comes so I can feel normal again. I have had wonderful results with botox & was very stressed out dealing with a bad voice again for several months. I don't know how much longer I can handle my SD voice....Any advice or comments? Thanks.

Hi Wendy,

I couldnt believe your post.... I was just about to post word for word your message!!

I too am due in the next month and have found life very hard without botox. First 3 months okay and then down hill big time....

I did read on an old post that the botox toxin only stays in your body for 48 hours. So some people are of the opinion that if you express enough milk to cover those 48 hours it should be okay.

I am actually about to write to my neurologist and ask what his advice is.

Neither myself or my obs. doctor have found any information on Botox and breatfeeding.

I guess the answer will come back as with pregnancy that no one really knows...... but better not to risk baby's health.

Maybe a short run on the boobies this time!!!

Please contact me direct if you want to discuss further... I will let you know what my neurologist says.

I also think that if we cant breastfeed for very long its not the end of the world. Surely our babies will be happy with a mother less stressed because they can talk rather than one extremly stressed due to a bad voice.(as well as no sleep!)Modern milk formular is extremely good. Lets just see if anyone else has any information...

Good luck

I really hope the doctors can provide you with an answer that leaves you comfortable with your decision about whether to have the botox and/or whether to breast feed. Having breast fed one child and not the next I can offer that my relationship is as good and as rewarding with both. What's most important is that you are emotionally equiped to provide all the love and support you can and to do that means looking after your needs too. All the best to you both.

Vicki

First of all, I congratulate you girls in wanting to do the
very best for your baby. Breastfeeding is USUALLY the best!
It's also the easiest!! But I thought Vici gave you an
encouraging reply.

However, have you thought of e-mailing the Dystonia Research
Foundation directly to ask their advise? Or the NSDA?
You can click their websites at the top of either bb page
and they give you an opportunity to contact them personally
by e-mail. I have done that with the DMRF and they answer
quickly. They may not say what you want to hear, but it's
worth a try.

Also, I assume you are both aware of the La Leche League
International. You can e-mail them at www.lalecheleague.org
with questions. It has been years since I read their
literature, but they used to encourage new mothers to
at least breast-feed a few days or weeks, so the baby
could benefit from the early milk called colostrum.
You could ask about that option perhaps. I certainly
wish you both the very best for you and your little ones!!

HI,

I had my daughter 7 years ago and had a horrible time getting through pregnancy without my voice - I made the decision not to breastfeed and to be able to talk to my child, my friends and even to be able to make an emergency call if anything happened at home.
It was a difficult choice to make but I think it saved my sanity - being at home with a small baby can be very isolating and the botox allowed me to get out, meet other mothers at mother's groups and to stay in contact with friends and relatives while I was "stuck at home".
It really is up to the individual, but I would like to report that I have a happy, healthy child with no allergies, major illnesses or any other problems. I feel I made the right choice for me.

Hope this helps.
