Dear NSDA Community,

These wristbands are attention getters!! They really are red with black letters even though the photo made them look somewhat orange. I wear mine in the gym and have received quite a few inquiries. They make great gifts. Kids love them! Each one is sold in a sealed plastic bag. I recommend stapling our NSDA trifold wallet card to the sealed bag to further raise awareness for our cause. The launch of this wristband comes at a good time for Dystonia Awareness Week which will take place from June 4-11, 2005. I will be asking members of my local SD Support Group to help raise awareness, support our NSDA cause, and commemorate Dystonia Awareness Week by buying/selling these wristbands. Let's all "Speak Out for Spasmodic Dysphonia". We who are living with SD are great spokespeople for educating the medical and lay communities about our rare voice disorder.

Sincerely,

Hello All,

I ordered some wristbands and have started to wear them this week. I work in an office for a shopping mall and today we are holding free blood pressure screenings. As I was getting my blood pressure read, the nurse looked at and read my wristband. She said that she had problems with her vocal cords so she wrote down the name spasmodic dysphonia and was going to talk to her doctor and do some research. I gave her the NSDA web site information also.

I agree 100%,it is the latest craze. Lance Armstong has the yellow "Live Strong."

I think most of you know that I have ADSD, and also CD. I have my blue "Freedom To Move" bracelet with dystonia foundation website on the inside. I have only worn it for a week & several people have asked about it; the door is opened right then for us to raise public awareness. One of our CD members 12 year old son is wearing his to school, and he told his Mom when the kids asked what it is, he tells them about dystonia. Cool huh?

I am waiting on my SD red & black bracelet & will wear them both. Mary your suggestion of stapling the wallet card is great, that's the way the "Freedom To Move" were packaged.

Best wishes to all,

Dear Kelly and Linda,

I applaud you for wearing the wristbands. It's a great conversation starter. If you are wearing your wristband and someone asks more about SD, you can hand the person a trifold wallet card which explains SD and gives the NSDA contact information.

Sincerely,

Trying not to be a "spoil sport" I can't help but wonder with all the types of wristbands for various causes available what the real impact is. I think the real impact is that there is a lot of packaging and a huge number of wristbands that end up in solid waste facilities. I am not aware of any system to recycle used wristbands. Maybe our organization makes a few bucks. Not sure that many people walk around reading others' wristbands and, if they do, what impact that has. Another fad that ends up in the waste stream.

Sorry...I couldn't resist.

John

Spasmodic Dysphonia is a big part of who I am and I am proud to wear my red wristband. For many years, I did not know why my voice sounded the way it does and now I know. I am happy to have the opportunity to speak about it and several people have asked me what it is for. Yes, there are a lot of causes, but this is my cause. And yes, I believe the point is also to contribute to the NSDA, which I support.
