Hypnosis

I'm wondering if anyone has experience with hypnosis. I've had AB/AD SD for 4 years and most recently am having good success with ZHT, however I feel I am my own worst enemy at this point as I have terrible breathing habits. I tend to hold my breath when speaking. Also when trying to start a conversation or answer a question, it is very difficult to get started.

I'm wondering if hypnosis would help me get over this hump and help me break those habits.

How do you find a reputable hypnotist? Are there specific questions to ask when searching?

I really do appreciate this board and have learned so much from all who post. Thank you all for sharing your experiences!

BECAUSE OF RELIGIOUS BELIEVES I WILL NOT TRY HYPNOSIS BY GOING UNDER HYPNOSIS IT LEAVES THE MIND OPEN FOR UNHEALTHY THINGS TO ENTER.
I TRIED ACUPUNCTURE BUT DID NOT NOTICE ANY CHANGE ALSO TRIED 3 BOTOX INJECTIONS WITHOUT GOOD RESULTS
I AM TRYING TO DEAL WITH IT AS IS I HAVE GOOD PEOPLE I WORK WITH SO THAT HELPS ALOT
I HAVE MORE GOOD DAYS THAN BAD DAYS

I don't think I would go for hypnosis myself but I understand what you are talking about (holding your breath) I do it all the time and am not even aware of it. I catch myself and have to really think about it to make myself start breathing. I'm not sure if this is a habit of some kind of if it is something I have no control of. I can't seem to overcome it and I am trying. I think I read something on the BB once before about someone else that does this. I use this voice cd that forces me to do diophramatic (can't spell) breathing and I can do that fine but I can't seem to implement it into my regular conversations. I have AD SD myself and have had some pretty severe brething problems for about a year. I think I probably had some breathing problems before that but not severe and I had just gotten used to it. I had SLAD surgery which really helped my voice and helped my breathing a little but I am still struggling with breathing. My voice has gotten better each day from the surgery. (absolutely no tremmors, breaks or spasms) However it does not work for everyone. I think it is mostly for AD SD and not suppose to work on tremmors but think my tremmors kind of went away during the time I was having botox. I don't really know because I didn't even realize it until I read a diagnois I got from my speech therapist three yeas ago. i just read it again a week ago and it said I had severe tremmors and I my doctor that did the surgery didn't notice any tremmors and I do remember after reading the report that I did have tremmors. I have been going for ZHT therapy for my breathing and so far that seems to be helping a little. The chiorpractor said I have a displaced trecha (which blocks my air) and also bone spurs on my neck bone. He's working on the trecha but nothing he can do about the spurs. Anyway, whatever you decide to do, I pray that it works for you.

My husband was diagnosed with SD in 2001 and for the last three years, he has had remarkable improvement. He tried a hypnotherapist twice and seemed to like it. He used to have the problems with holding in his breath when he started to speak but he has slowly overcome it. He used to practice using a breathing apparatus that has a ping pong ball inside. He is working on his onset which gives him trouble but he has pretty good fluency. He recently tested positive for toxoplasma (from cats) which affected his immune system, which he felt might have interfered with his SD. He takes botox shots (very small dosages) when he senses the tightness in his throat and this usually occurs twice a year. It has helped him maintain his voice even though the botox shot affects his voice anywhere from 1 - 4 weeks after the shot. But I believe that using botox before he loses his voice helps him from misusing his voice, incorrect breathing pattern and other unnatural habits. But another issue that is arising is the fear that he will lose his voice again and so we will probably see a therapist about this. Maybe even go back to the hypnotherapist as well.
Oh, my husband found the hypnotherapist from our massage therapist who highly recommended her (in Los Angeles)

I Have tried hypnosis with little effect. We tried to replicate the "good voice" you get when you have just woken up.
So when in a trance I was asked a question guess what no effect voice my voice was still breaking. I belive it can help with relaxation but so can a lot of things

I am planning to go to Chicago to try the ZHT therapy. Please tell me about your experience and are you happy with the results? Also, where did you have your therapy done. Do you have AB or AD/SD?

Thanks
Colleen

In a nutshell, I have been pleased with the ZHT therapy, but have had a couple of periods of regression. I am AD/AB plus have tremors, so believe I am not the typical patient. My biggest problem now is my poor breathing habits and the need to improve breathing from my diaphragm. I am still encouraged by ZHT and am every bit as good as I was with Botox. My doctor is in Tulsa, Oklahoma. If you would like more details, please e-mail me at ronnie@oldwiz.net.

Good luck! I'll be anxious to hear of your experience.
