Hi Jim,I have both abductor SD and asthma. Which type of SD do you have ? .... I did get muscle tightness in my neck with the first couple of injections I had, but that seems to have eased.
I went to see a chest specialist, as I had been having problems with my breathing just after botox injections and when the botox wears off and my voice starts to get worse, as I was wondering whether the asthma was compounding the problems with the SD.
I was also finding that I was having difficulties at night, waking up with difficulty breathing or coughing. But the specialist was not helpful at all. He knew nothing at all about Abductor SD and how that effects breathing or how my asthma may complicate matters and could only tell me that I have 83% lung capacity which he thought was quite good and that my asthma is not too bad. (I guess it's all relative eh!). He couldn't tell me anything about how my asthma may be impacting on the abductor SD, as he knew nothing about SD.
I am on seretide 250 for my asthma and ventolin when needed and am just getting the botox for my SD. The chest specialist also gave me some medication for acid reflux called Lansoprazole (Ivax). Re: the botox, I normally have 30 units on one side of the muscle and then another 30 units the other side with a 6 week gap in between. (Apparently 30 units is the equivalent of 3 units in the U.S). Normally the doctor leaves a two week gap for people with abductor SD. But we found that having the injections two weeks a part was causing me problems with breathing and swallowing. Leaving 6 weeks between having either side of the muscle injected seems to normally work, with a 3 month gap, and then we start again.
I would be very interested in hearing how you get on and if you find any useful info which relates to both asthma and SD.
Good luck,
