Recovering Alcoholics

I'm a recovering alcoholic with SD. Are there any others out there like me? Does alcoholism have any cuase or effect on SD? How about smoking? When I drank, I could relax more and speak better, unless I drank too much. Just thought I'd throw this out there.

Bill, alcoholism will not cause SD, nor make the symptoms any worse.
Smoking, believe it or not, I have been told makes the spasms and the symptoms of adductor SD better because smoking creates swelling in the throat, which opens the vocal cords (or bows them).
I smoke, but I have to say this anyway, it's not a good enough reason to continue smoking. SD isn't going to kill ya.
Boy, am I leaving myself open....

Wow, this has turned into a vice thread. Micki, I would have to say it wouldn't be a good idea for a few reasons. Mind you, it's been around 15 years since I smoked marijuana, but I recall having my tongue feel like it was covered in cotton, red eyes, no energy to do anything, and really craved Skittles. Marijuana is still illegal, you might do better to find something that works and can be purchased without fear of prosecution.

I have just combined the ideas in this thread with the one in Goly's thread about tongue piercing. Bear in mind that most people with SD are over 40. The result - an image of someone well past their youth who drinks, smokes pot and has pierced their tongue - and insists they are doing it all to try to improve their voice disorder!! LOL!!!

when MDMA was legal and used by psychotherapists back in the 80's it was known to correct voice disorders (probably because it releases a flood of seretonin and completely relaxes every muscle in the body).. the only problem is.. it's a susspected neurotoxin and the voice problem returns when the effects of the drug wear off...

hmm.. i wonder if piercing your tongue, drinking, smoking pot, wearing baggy clothing and dancing all night to loud repetitive music in darkened clubs could be the answer! wouldn't that be a hoot and a half? we could call ourselves *grayvers* hehe
