I have just been diagnosised with SD and the only symptom I have that I don't see discussed is pain with speaking. Is this a typical symptom for people with SD? My throat is sore and dry most of the time and pain increases with speaking.
thanks for any input.

Hi

I had my first Botox injection in October after being diagnosed in August. I had the symptoms for two and a half years prior to this. I cannot say I had any pain when speaking although I did have a dry throat and also was constantly clearing my throat. My speech therapist recommended sucking boiled sweets to keep things lubricated and make it easier to speak. Have you been offered Botox injections? if so, speaking from my personal experience I would say go for it as I have had excellent results.

Good luck
Iris

Good luck with your botox injection. With regard to dry mouth and pain, I've been encouraged from more than one source to drink water, lots and lots of water. Hydration helps.

Thanks, I find I have to drink lots of water but could probably drink more. In regards to your other post, I tried benedryl today for the first time. It might have helped my voice a little but it made me really tired. I just took the regular dose on the box. two capsules.

Yes, I have always had pain/sore throat along with the other symptoms. I'm not sure if it's from straining to speak, reflux, or something about the SD. I haven't found anything that totally relieves the pain, but sometimes I take aleve (naprosyn), and it helps a little.
I'm wondering why benedryl would help as some people suggested, since it's an antihistamine, and also is sometimes used to induce drowsiness.
Good luck to you! I hope the upcoming doctor appt. is helpful.

I have had exactly the symptoms you describe, but the doctors are still sorting through what is wrong with me so who knows what is going on. My pain eventually went away. I used to spend all day drinking to try and keep that dry feeling away and to squealch the pain, but it never seemed to help. Now my throat feels normal but still sounds bad.
