I had my first botox about a week ago and I was wondering if your supposed to rest your voice at all? My doctor never said and of course I didnt think about until a couple days after botox. I feel some strain but nothin too bad. Im still in my breathy stage and getting better every day. Just wondered.

Hi. I never heard that you need to rest your voice in the days/weeks following an injection. I do know a few people (including me) who will rest their voice for an hour or two after the actual injection procedure. There was one study done on this comparing incessant talking for 30 minutes post-injection compared with absolute silence for 30 minutes. The silence after the injection group faired better. That being said, plenty of people go right back to work, talk away and their results are just as good.

Only thing I have heard is that talking in normal voice (not what sounds normal when breathy - just what feels normal) is most logical and beneficial. That is, don't try to yell when you sure as heck can't. Don't make your voice louder than it wants to be, but also don't rest your voice as that will not serve any purpose.

Laurie

Right after getting one of my unilateral shots I went to my son's football game. I asked my Dr. if I could yell, or shout like I normally do at the games but was told not to because it may effect the length of how long the shot works. I'm talking yelling or screaming to be heard accross the football field. I talked to the people that were with me, but I didn't even try to raise my voice. I sure did a lot of clapping though.

After any of my other shots I also spoke after each shot. That's the purpose of getting shots, so we can talk! :) Enjoy as much as you can get out of your voice while the effects are taking place. Just don't over do it, or scream at a football game.

Take Care,

Paula
