Hi, Jasper.

I'd also like to point you to the NSDA website at: www.dysphonia.org. Go there under "support" and click on "Minnesota". You'll find a list of the various Area Contact Persons from Minnesota. These NSDA support volunteers are willing to answer questions about information you may need. Good luck to you.

Sincerely,
Mary Bifaro
Abductor SD since 1987
Charlotte, NC

Hi Jasper,

Yes, there are quite a few of us S.D'ers in Minnesota, and there are some interesting things happening here in the SD community.

John Comer who is from Roseville (a suburb of St. Paul) has recently become the coordinator for the Plains Region. I think Laurie already sent you an email with his name. There is an SD educational symposium coming up on Sept. 29 at 10AM at Augsburg
College in Minneapolis. There will be both doctors and people with SD on hand to share their knowledge and experience with this disorder. It would be a great thing to attend if you can as it would give you lots of good information and you could meet others from Minnesota who have SD.

I am also told that there may be support group(s) starting for people with SD if there is an interest.

If you live close to St. Paul I would be happy to meet with you.
I have materials from the NSDA that I could give you and have been able to meet with several doctors (ENT's) and speech therapists who treat SD (in the Twin Cities area.)

You didn't mention where you live in Minnesota or whether you have Abductor or the more common Adductor type of SD.

Mary Salisbury
St. Paul
AB/AD (Mixed SD since 2005)

Hi Mary:
I live in the area of HighLand Park St.Paul MN. I have had probloms with my speech for 15 years and have been missed diagnosed several times through out this 15 year struggle. However about 3 weeks ago I met with a speech pathologist that came highly reccommended and she is very convinced that what I have is SD. She has since reffered me to a specialist from the U of M who specilizes in SD and has sent her a tape recording sample of my voice. I have an Eval. In October. set up with her. She said she is going to use whats called a laryngoscope to determine what type of SD I have. I am just releived to know this stupid problom with my voice actually has a name and there may actually be hope for me yet! I still can't believe there are others who have the same thing after feeling so alone for so long. I am very nervous about having SD but would like to talk with some one else who knows what I'm going through. Especially since I'm so new to it, I have so many questions about it. If you are sure it isn't to much of an inconvienence on your part, I think it would be a good idea for me to talk to some one who knows a little bit more about this not so well understood disorder. Please let me know. You can email me personally at tberica@yahoo.com . Thank you Mary for your time and generousity. I look forward to hearing from you.

I live in Lakeville, MN. I developed SD shortly after moving here in 2001 from Wisconsin. I always felt it was a move meant to be considering I am much closer to specialists, botox shots etc now that I am in the city. Definately try to make it to the symposium. I have never made it to the national one so am very excited about the regional being in Minneapolis! I think it would be great if we could get a support group set up. I met a woman in Farmington, MN with SD a couple years ago also. Amelia, AD-SD
