General Questions About BOTOX

I have had ADSD for at least seven years. I have been formally and correctly diagnosed for almost one year. I am new to the BB and after reading several posts, I realize how little I know and how much I misunderstand.

I have had two BOTOX injections bilaterally. The first was too much medicine for me, and I experienced significant side effects for about five weeks. The second was a much reduced dose, and the side effects were not bad at all.

I thought that I would have to experiment in the beginning, but then I would discover my correct dose and the injection would yield the same results and side effects every time after that. Is it true that the same dose may result in a different reaction and may not even work in future injections?

Why do the doctors "miss"? My doctor uses an EMG machine. Does this help? When the doctor misses, does the patient receive another injection right then?

I am reading the posts on developing tolerance for BOTOX. If it were up to me, I would have another injection as soon as my voice begins to decline. How long do others wait before having another injection? Do you let the BOTOX get completely out of your system (your voice returns to baseline)?

Thanks for your patience in answering. This is new to me!

I can only address part of your post. I spoke to my doctor the last time I had a shot about my worry that botox would lose effectiveness over time. He said the research does not show that you can become "immune" to botox. He also said there was no reason to wait until it is out of my system before having another shot.

One docs opinion. I'm sure there are other opins.

A test can be performed to determine if a patient has developed immunity to Botox. It is rare, but it can happen.

For those patients who may have developed resistance to Botulinum toxin type A, or Botox, the Food and Drug Administration approved Myobloc, the type B form of Botulinum toxin.

Good luck!

Hi there

I have been having Botox injections for the past 9 years and have on occassions had my Dr 'miss' although he always uses an EMG machine. Sensations are different for everyone but i can usually tell when the Dr may have missed when I feel a slight trickle down my throat as though i have swollowed some of the botox.

As for resistance that is difficult. I myself have had my dose signifcantly raised over the years and find the botox lasting for lesser periods of time (sometimes not even 2 months)... however I have heard that resistance to the injections takes years to develop if it develops at all.

This is only my personal experiance however...
