I did some research and read about Zanaflex and Xanax. They're pills that I think might facilitate coping with SD. Zanaflex, is used to treat muscle spasms and Xanax for anxiety disorders that may cause throat tightness; voice disorders. I'm not sure if I can buy Xanax without a doctor's subscription. Has anyone tried either one of these pills? I'm pretty optimistic of a positive result. |

I'm not a pill popper at all, but I tried Diazepam (a sub. for Valium) on a hunch it might help relax myself and vocal chords on my very worst voice day's. It did help a lot! but I will only use it for emergencies like when I have to speak to a large group Etc.
My Ent prescribed some for me, and agreed it might help, but did mention the body will adjust to it over time if taken frequently, and then be non effective. Raymond AD/SD |

I have been prescribed another anti depressive. I felt so insulted:( Would that be the idea? To make your muscles relax? Well I still don't want to take it since it can increase seizures..and that is NOT what I'm so anxiously waiting for. There's gotta be something natural and free of awful side effects that can give the same result. Also having been on muscle relaxing pills before, muscles tend to relax to much so I'd be stuck. |

Don't know where you live, but in the US Xanax is a prescription drug. It is also highly addictive. |

Again, apologies for the very late reply. Muscle relaxants have helped me and some others with SD to some degree. The anti-anxiety meds won't likely help. One of the problems with the muscle relaxants is that they can lower your pitch potentially leading to misuse of your larynx and creating more problems. I found some benefit from a small amount of Clonazepam/Rivotril for years but ultimately decided to have the SLAD-R surgery nearly two years ago with continuing good benefit. Gary |
