Paying for Botox | ![]() | ||

I've been self-paying all my doctor visits. Been going to several speech therapy sessions and my therapist had no intention of telling me about my SD possibility until I, the patient brought it up. I'm a student, U.S. citizen, clean record, no other disorder than SD, and can't get health insurance! I'm going to apply for medicaid tomorrow. I read that Botox is very high priced. How does one manage to pay for the injections? Is there a Botox plan or something? Insufficient money is a big barrier for me now. I can't find a job that doesn't require me to speak. Thanks! |

Allergan, the makers of Botox, have a Patient Assistance Program to help with insurers or to provide Botox at no charge to financially eligible patients who are either uninsured or underinsured. More information and applications are available on their website or by calling their hotline. www.BotoxPatientAssistance.com
Good luck! Lori

I just found out the insurance will not cover the doctor that give my botox shots. So I will have to pay or not get them. Is there any help for this situation? |

Why won't your insurance pay? Botox injections are standard treatment for SD. Even Medicare pays for Botox for SD. I would get your doctor involved, research it, and even appeal their decision if you have to. That said, some doctors are willing to accept the lowest amount that they would collect from an insurance company through their contracted rate. As an example, let's say a doctor charges $1,000 for Botox injections, but accepts $500 from a health insurance company as payment in full and credits the rest. Some doctors, especially when you put it to them this way, will accept the amount that they would have accepted from the insurance company, which is always significantly less. You can also remind the doctor that there won't be any insurance hassles or forms to fill out, which saves him money. Good luck! Lori

The insurance company has been paying them. But my doctor is with a Health Care that they will not pay anything from them after Oct 1st . They claim they have been bill the insurance company for false stuff. I have no MD that does the shots. I do not know if they will cover someone outside there network of doctors. They just told us about this recently. |

I'd suggest going to the healthcare referral section of the NSDA website and calling the other MDs in and around your area to see which ones accept your insurance. I'm sure you can find someone. While your explanation is a bit confusing, it sounds like your MD is dropping that policy and/or they are dropping him as of October 1st so there's not much you can do about that. So ask around for other MDs. I'm sure someone will take your plan. Laurie |

Switch to an MD under your insurance plan. Then it should be paid for. If there is no MD on your plan who treat SD, then you could get permission to see someone off the plan. the chances are very slim that is the case though especially if you have a normal commercial insurer. I'd recommend calling some other MDs in your area. |
