I wanted to ask those of you that get respiratory type symptoms...and also all those with voice symptoms too if they have trouble laying down affecting various areas and if they had ideas why this is or what's going on... I've noticed that I can't lie down normally because it aggravates the chest area and breathing. This causes me to wake up, hard to get to sleep...feels like a snake smothering the chest. If I lay on my side this seems a bit more bearable. I have to sleep on my side or sitting up. I thought maybe if another person with similar symptoms was located maybe could figure out a little bit more about it, etc. |

I don't know if there's a connection but I have nose allergie and tend to hyperventilate (chronic hyperventilation) I did notice that only 1 of my nostrils is actually functioning well. probably I'm just trying to compensate by breathing through the mouth like when you have a cold. But as for the lying down. I should not fall asleep on my back. I would wake up right away and feel awful. Also, I had a little problem (pain, pressure) in my left side in my chest when I was pregnant with my first and the doctor gave it a name but I forgot. So I try to fall asleep on my right side but it's O.K. if I wake up hours later on my back. The problems with falling asleep are probably for a part due to epileptic activity in the brain (or whatever they call that). Well, that's what I understand from my doctor (neurologist) but I really don't know that much about it...after all I'm "half asleep" when it happens. I've read something about falling asleep. Maybe you can find your condition explained on the internet under "sleeping disorders". Have you told a doctor about this problem? |

When I first had the symptoms of SD I could talk better lying down. In trying to figure out all that was going on I discovered that I had reflux problems too and in treating that it seemed to help my voice.. however my Dr was able to show me the tremor in the best as well as the worst of my speaking attempts. I continue to sleep with my head raised and use a careful diet because the reflux really makes everything worse. My DR has me use famotidine before bed and aciphex each AM. This causes dry mouth and I walk around with water and sip all day. However, both drugs have helped my symptoms. Dr plans on stretching my esophagus again as that helped my voice and cut down on the choking and coughing fits that was straining my damaged vocal cords. I don't know where this ends but the thread on the medications that may make our voices worse just blew my mind, I use many of them on a regular basis..what if much of my SD has been worsened by RX?? PS- I was told to use the left side to sleep if I could not sleep on my back. Later, Janet |
