Sitting up vs laying down for injection | ![]() | ||

I'm curious as to what most doctors do? I've had it both ways and personally prefer laying down as I have felt pretty rough when sitting up during a difficult injection that took several minutes to complete. My current doctor has his patients sit up for injections. |

I have only ever laid down which suits me fine! I don't think I would like sitting up. |

I have had over forty injections of BoTox and most of them have been given in a sitting injection. NIH and VMC both do it in a sitting position. I find it a lot more comfortable and I get much better results. When I am flat on my back I accumulate mucous in my throat which causes me to cough and to swallow. Neither are good for the injection. I also feel I asm pinned to the table with the needle which is a very uncomfortable feeling for me. In addition, I have found that the doctors who do it flat of your back are much more likely to not deaden the outside of the throat before injecting. This is another problem I have with them. I have promised myself that I will never have another injection flat of my back. |

Hi Ruthie!
My only experience with my injections has been in a reclining chair(over 30 times)similar to a dentist chair where your head is tilted back, extended, but not flat. Never sitting up so I can't give you an opinioin on that. I cannot see the injection/needle from this position. My doctor uses a 1st injection to anesthetize my throat & vocal chords. After coughing a bit & waiting 4-5 minutes he gives me my botox injection into both vocal chords. It has worked for me. With something as personal that this is for us, I can only suggest you do what is most comfortable for you. Roxy/Bob Modified by roxycat at Sun, Mar 08, 2009, 17:26:40 |

Ruthie: My personal response to your question is under view all. I do not know why it isn't showing on the list/schedule of responses. I hope it helps a bit. Roxy/Bob |

Dr. Bastian in Downer's Grove, IL provides the injections while you are sitting up leaning back. I think I have had 47 with him. The 5 I have had with another doctor laying down were much more uncomfortable and the results of the botox were not as effective. Do what you gotta do but you might want to try sitting up 1 time. Good Luck |
