Hi, i'm 6 1/2 months pregnant and my voice has started to get really tight and breaky this last week. I actually was taking a 1/3 of a benadryl pill everyday (monday- friday) ever since i got pregnant, before going to work (doctor approved). My voice wasn't great but at least allowed me to perform my job. I stop taking it about 3 weeks ago, and i noticed that my voice was holding up pretty good as it was. Unfortunately my voice has gotten really bad again, i feel like i can barely breath when i talk. I don't want to go back to the benadryl, but i don't know how i will be able to get through this 2 months with this voice, or better said with no voice. I was wondering if any of you ladies has been given a botox shot in the last trimester and what the results were.
P.s I've only had 1 shot prior to getting pregnant. I had no very good results. I was breathy for 17 days and my okay voice lasted for 6 weeks.

I don't think you would find a reputable doctor who would inject you with Botox while you're pregnant -- regardless of what trimester you're in. Hang in there and good luck. Lori |

Congrats on the baby! I've never been pregnant, so I don't really know for sure. But, isn't it ok to drink an occaisonal glass of red wine while pregnant? Because, wine does help. Maybe you can sip on a glass of wine prior to your shower?? I don't know, I'm just throwing it out there.

I hate to start a debate on a very sensitive topic that would be better handled by one's personal doctor, but my personal (non-medical) opinion is not to take any medication when you are pregnant unless your health absolutely requires it, with the exception of things like Tylenol which are apparently safe. I would never consider drinking alcohol to fix a voice for a baby shower (and the benefits of alcohol for SD are over-rated), nor would I take anti-anxiety meds (which are not guaranteed safe - but only used when someone has a severe anxiety disorder or seizure disorder or other disorder... as some of the meds are the same for various conditions... where the risk to the mother outweighs the risk to the baby, etc.). None, however, are risk free by any means. Toughing it out might work best! Think about your sweet baby! Laurie Modified by Laurie at Mon, Apr 13, 2009, 12:46:43 |

Sorry if that came across wrong. Let me clarify, I do not condone drinking and getting drunk while pregnant. lol My goodness no! Again, I've never been pregnant and don't know for sure. I just heard that its ok to have 1 glass of wine on occaision. And its really up to the person on whether or not their case is severe enough to want to take anti-anxiety medications during pregnancy. There are some out there on the market that are tested as being safe, yes, even while pregnant. Its not for everyone and I probably wouldn't take anything while pregnant unless I absolutely needed to either. The key thing is that anyone that is pregnant needs to consult their Dr before doing anything. What is "controversial" for one person, might be the solution for another. If its only for one day... I'd probably tough it out too. My friends and family know my condition and they understand if I have to whisper alot. :) Lori B.

Might sound like forever, but 2 1/2 months is not that long. A baby shower is one day. Honestly, there may not be a big risk but I don't have the slightest clue as far as I know no studies have been done. You can always opt to not breast feed and reclaim your voice with Botox and get a better handle on treatment once the baby is born. Hang in there,

Good luck with your pregnancy. There has been some discussion on this topic on this bulletin board in the past. Just do a search of the archives under "Botox and Pregnancy". Best Wishes,

I would say not to drink whille your pregnant. It isnt worth the risk.
Focus on your baby......Your so lucky!! I know its hard but you can get through this. I would have a someone read the cards for you as you open the gifts at your baby shower. Speak in a low voice that always helps. No doctor would do botox whille your pregnant and I dont think you should try it even if you found one that would do it. Your babys health comes first. Good Luck and Congrats!! |
