Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has been prescribed muscle relaxants such as Cyclobenzaprine? It is suggested that this drug has an inhibitory effect on motor neurons and I am wondering if this has been effective for anyone.

Thanks!

Caitlin

I never heard of this, but now I'm curious. Let me know what you find out or how it works for you! :)

Hi Caitlin

I was initially trialled on similar medications to treat SD (although I have never used Cyclobenzaprine) when I was first diagnosed. I found them to be of some help however in the long run they didn't work for me to an extent that allowed me to cope with SD, I have found botox injections to be the most successful form of treatment so far.

However that being said the medication may have a different effect on you, give them a trial and see if the benefits out way the side effects.

Good luck!

Hello. I am now trying Tizanidine 4mg. I have been on it less than two weeks. So far, I can't tell any difference. My neurologist said to try it for two weeks, and if it doesn't help in that length of time to double it. I am finishing up with speech therapy. While I am with my therapist, I sound pretty good, but I find that it has very little carryover. My therapist said to keep practicing. I am considering looking into Botox. Good luck to you.

There is an ongoing study at the National Institute of Health concerned dextromethoropan (DM). It is the DM that is noted on bottles of Robitussin. I believe there is some information about the study on the NSDA website but I am not sure. I am not aware of any use of muscle relaxants that really help with SD. I am sure that neurologists have tried a number of things over the years and if they had been successful then we most likely would know. I would be interested in learning from others what their experience might have been. You might also contact the NIH and ask about the results.
