This is not medical advice but, if you're like me, you'll try anything that might help. One thing that I've been trying that I stumbled across on the web is actually a vocal exercise that deepens the voice. and it's helped a lot. You basically say "KING, KONG...DING, DONG...SING, SONG" and hold the 'NG' for about 7 seconds. Only do this once a day as it can cause your throat to get quite sore. Not only has my voice deepend considerably after 3 weeks, but it's also not as 'strained'.
It sounds silly... and it even sounds silly that this would deepen your voice, but it does. Anyway, just one of the things that I've stumbled on to try to manage this condition. Link removed per bulletin board rules. Modified by Moderator-WB at Wed, Aug 18, 2010, 14:46:01 |

Is this for real? Why would saying those words make your throat sore, I think someone is playing a joke on us. |

It could be.... I am listening to some Voice Excersice CD and it says to put your finger in your Adam apple and speak like Yogi Bear which opens your voice box. With your finger you will be able to feel that the voice box is down and it relaxes the passage.. so maybe what they are saying explains it... No harm in trying. I am at a point that I try anything they tell me to do. :) |

No joke... and I thought it was silly too. Actually if you google it, the technique is pretty prevalent. I suppose deepening the voice or strengthening the vocal cords does something. And I'm not saying my dysphonia has went away by any means, but it's provided a little help... and I'll take any help I can get. Maybe some of our more medically-minded friends can lend further explanation? Eric |

Thanks for the responses back and thanks for the tips. There also is a great exercise called ZHT that I have tried over the years as a vocal exercise too. |
