It is interesting that you mention that, I sometimes feel that weight training worsens the symptoms.

I first began noticing a problem with my voice twenty five years ago following extreme workouts. The harder the workout back then the more difficulty I had speaking. This was a good eight years before I was diagnosed with SD. I still notice that when I work out hard it does make speaking more difficult. It doesn't seem to matter where I am in my botox regime. I used to think it was sports induced asthma until I was diagnosed with SD.

Yep, the same thing happens to me. I'm a serious runner and my speech goes all to heck after I run. The thing is, I don't care. I'm so filled with endorphins that I don't give a damn how I speak.
I think the increased speech difficulty has to do with breathing and lung capacity.

The correlation between exercising and SD symptoms worsening is fascinating...I,often, go for walks and have noticed no increase in speech difficulty from this...But this could be, perhaps, because I don't walk that fast...Very interesting thread...Renee

I am fascinated by the strenuous exercise aggravating S.D.
Can I ask...if you are affected, have you been sweating a lot in the activity.
The reason I ask this, is did you know certain vitamins and minerals are lost in sweat? One in particular is vital to the calming neurotransmitters GABA and Dopamine. Both these are known to be involved in dystonias.
Other forms of dystonias are also aggravated by hard exercise in some sufferers.
