My Mother has AB dysphonia. She also has chronic asmtha and takes ADVAIR. When taking this med I noticed that her voice became higher and lighter.

Has anyone else noticed this and did you change med? If so what do you take? Thanks. Barbara

Hi Barbara. So nice of you to try to get answers for you mother. Unfortunately, I don't have the answers for you. Have you discussed this with her doctor? Not sure what you mean about higher and lighter. Do you mean her voice goes up and down? If you don't get the answers here, hopefully her doctor can help. I suggest that you might want to 'record' her voice when this happens, so her doctor can actually hear it. Good luck!!!

I recently saw a lung doctor for asthma symptoms. He told me steroid inhalers are awful for ppl with SD. Because you inhale the steroid, it stays on your vocal chords which can build up and cause yeast, which then causes inflammation and causes more voice problems. An albuterol is fine, as well as singulair which is a pill that is not a steroid but works well on asthma.
