Does anybody know if there is any correlation between thyroid nodules and repeated botox injections? I just found out today that I have these...There is a 95% chance that they are benign, but I find it curious that I have been getting botox injections for ten years(in the throat) and have developed thyroid nodules...Any comments would be appreciated...(Especially from medical types...) I know of another SD person who has nodules. She eventually had SLAD-R surgery, but I'll ask her what her opinion is and get back to you. |

I have ADSD and the only reason i was diagnosed was because i had migraines where i was hallucinating and throwing up and in bed for days. I went to see a Doc who felt my throat and said i feel something...so i went in to see an ENT and didnt like him so i asked to see another one, and he happened to be the chief of the dept. He was an excellent dr. He noticed the way i talked and asked if its always hard to do and always choppy, etc and i said yes, he said i had absd. It was one of the happiest moments of my life cuz i finally could get help for it..it was real, it wasnt in my head like i thought.
So i had my nodules before my botox. The nodules are somewhat common, i wouldnt think the botox would cause em...but ya never know. After joining this discussion board, ive been reading about the botox and its proving to cause some weird stuff to people. |

your welcome ;) i kept writing in my posting that i have absd, but it was a typo; i have ADsd. I have no idea why i kept doing that lastnight. Its like the 4th time ive done that! Frustrating! im glad i could help in some way. I hope your not freakin out about the nodules being cancerous, theres good odds theyre not- i think its 95% of the time theyre not cancerous. I wish you good luck at the dr visit, hope all goes well!

Thanks for the nice post...Yes, I realize there's a 95% chance that they're noncancerous...I, also,had a blood glucose screening today and had a minor fender bender over the weekend...When it rains it pours!! Renee |

Of course I can't be sure but I would guess that there is no real connection between botox and thyroid nodules. From what my research indicates, it is suspected that up to 50% of adults have thyroid nodules at some point. Most are so small they go undetected. If this is true, odds are quite a few people with SD also have thyroid nodules. It may be that nodules are detected much more often on people with SD as medical practitioners are often working in that area anyway. If the nodules were on the vocal cords then it would be highly likely that there would be a connection as vocal cord nodules are caused by overuse tensions etc. However, the thyroid, though in the vicinity, is not in direct proximity to the area being injected during botox. Well, that's my two cents anyway! Good luck and I hope those nodules end up being no biggie! |
