I have spasmodic dysphonia and cervical dystonia and I am a teacher. I know the musicians have banded together and offer each other support. I thought it would be nice to have something similar for teacher.

Yes, I'm a teacher and have had ADSD since 2009. I definitely think there are lots of us out there with SD.

Yes, I've had ADSD for 40 years and am a retired teacher of 26 years. I have had to fight against discrimination in my school district due to my voice. If anyone is having trouble or interested in finding out how to combat this, contact me at trish0@dslextreme.com. Put SD in the subject header so it doesn't go into spam. Smiles.

I am a teacher, and I have AdSD. Typically, I respond well to botulinum toxin injections. Injections, voice therapy, a voice amplifier, a wonderful support system, and my faith all work together to make staying in the classroom a possibility for me. It's tough, but I'm not giving up yet!

I am a college professor and I teach in the classroom regularly, and also take advantage of online courses. Yes, it can be difficult, but it is doable and when I project an attitude of confidence and ease despite the symptoms, students are very patient and kind. I time botox injections, and have other tricks of the trade like we all do. I've had SD since 1989 so the difficulties have become second nature and a part of things. I gave the graduation speech this year with bad SD symptoms to 3,000 students and families (I waited until after the speech to get my next Botox). Definitely I was anxious hoping I'd be understandable, but I'm used to that too! So having SD a long time has just made it blend into the background while I do my thing. I'm glad to finally get there.

Yes. I eventually had to retire from the classroom and the SD has continued to get worse. Speech therapy is making me more aware of what this is & how I can manage my life short of ending up depressed & isolated.

I am not a teacher but I was a singer and every Doctor I have talked to about this all say the same thing. That it dosen't have anything to do with me having SD.I don't buy it. I have met too many teachers, singers, pastors and public speakers while waiting in the doctors office for my next Botox injection for this to be true. It may not cause the dystonia that is probably true, but I believe if you have dystonia and use a certain muscle group repeatedly over time the spasms will move to that muscle. I have spacmodic torticollis,Spasmodic Dysphonia and also spasms in my left hand as I am left handed. Food for thought.
