I'm undiagnosed. For the last 3 years i've had a painful chronic sore throat. My voice is very raspy and horse, kind of like laryngitis but it's worsened by talking. My throat is always sore no matter what 24/7 but like I said pain gets worse when I talk. Is there anyone out there that is now diagnosed with this illness and has experienced chronic pain? If so please explain and give me as much info as you can. |

Sorry to hear about your pain but I know how you're feeling. It took me many years but I finally put two and two together for myself. My ENT could not explain the pain but when my MD asked what it was like, I told him it was muscle pain in the back of my throat. I'm a very rare patient who has SD/MTD and Fibromyalgia. I couldn't expect doctors to know about these two things together so since Fibro affects the muscles it made sense to me that my muscle strain was much worse than in a normal person. I suggested a muscle relaxant to my Fibro dr. and she prescribed Flexeril. That did the trick; finally! It was wonderful to hardly feel any pain. If I talk a lot or in loud situations there is still some pain but nothing like I had. Email me if you'd like to talk more.

Likely cause for a visit to your ENT. I had polyps on my LTVC many years ago and they will cause pain and hoarseness. They can be stripped surgically with very little effort. In the meantime, I suggest rinsing with a mild warm saltwater solution a few times a day(tsp salt to 2 oz water, stirred not shaken). I also find that your favorite menthol thraot lozenge can be of some use, but be careful not to over do them as that can lead to other issues. One to three daily should do quite nicely. But do go see your ENT soon. |
