Thought I would share with you the treatment I've been getting for my SD. It has had a real positive effect on me. I was getting botox injections for six years and they were working pretty well. However Botox stopped working last year. I was devastated. I had a terrible voice for six months and the botox seemed to make it worse. The speech pathologist thinks my condition may have changed from Ad SD to a mixed type. I am waiting for a stroboscopy to confirm this.
However after some inspiration from reading other people's stories, I decided to take a more holistic approach to treating my SD. I have been doing laryngeal massage with the help of my speech pathologist. She taught me how to do it so I can do it every day on my own. she taught me some techniques to loosen the tongue muscle and voice exercises to lower my larynx as it was sitting very high. I also do speech Therapy and breathing exercises every day.
I have persisted with all this for just over 4 months and am happy with my voice. my voice isn't as gravely and I have very few voice breaks. I still have trouble projecting my voice at times but I'm no longer struggling day to day and living the botox roller coaster.
Botox will probably continue to work well for a lot of you. However if you're like me and it stops working, don't lose hope.. try something different
Best wishes to you all, Zoe

I have heard of SD evolving at the recent NSDA Symposium held in Chicago-land.

I am sorry the Botox treatments is not effective for you now, I have heard of this happening in some cases as well. Certainly not all as many individuals get Botox treatments for years with great success,

I am glad you are trying other things to help yourself.

Thank you for sharing.

Interesting - thanks for letting us know about an alternative to botox.
