I live in NY state and I am self employed. I recently switched insurances through the healthcare exchange. (Not really by choice, my insurance company went out of business)I switched to Oscar because my doctor took it and it did not require referrals. Right after the enrollment period closed my doctor switched hospitals. The new hospital does not take Oscar.
Using the List of providers on the NSDA website I checked them against Oscar's list of in network providers and not a single one takes Oscar. (All of NYC and Long Island) I called several of them to verify.
I called Oscar and they gave me a name of a doctor who treats sleep apnea and has never heard of spasmodic dysphonia. They are still looking but I have zero confidence in them.
I called New York state of health about switching insurances. They put in a "priority" ticket but can't give me a timeframe about getting this resolved. With Obmacare it is very difficult to switch after the enrollment period has closed. Has anyone experienced a similar issue? Is there anything else I should be doing? My voice is totally gone and no one will take my insurance.
P.S. I also put in a complaint about Oscar through NYS department of finance but that won't do anything to help me. What is the point of paying $600 a month and not having any doctors that take the insurance. Part of my complaint was Oscar dropped two major hospitals after the enrollment period.
