Reading a stimulating book “The Mozart Effect”

Just thought that some of us on this BB may enjoy reading this book called “ The Mozart Effect” Tapping the power of music to heal the body, strengthen the mind and unlock the creative spirit. The author is Don Campbell. I checked it out from the library. I am finding this book to be very informative and thought provoking .

There are explanation of studies and research into the mystery of human voice and mutual effects of mind and body and voice. Several chapters on working with sound to heal the body and some suggestions to remove restrictions and heal vocal cord and larynx difficulties.

The book suggests that................Humming, is a quiet form of toning, and is especially effective in relieving disorders in the voice box itself. That through gentle vibrations the larynx heals itself and some music can effect the brain and neurological functions and it’s chemical balance. ...................”Humming the ‘M’ sound is responsible for some astonishing restorations of normal functioning of the larynx. “ and When excessive pressure is removed, gentle vibrations are used as a restorative technique.

Has any one read this book?

Goly,

Haven't read that particular book but several years ago (maybe 5 to 8 years ago?...not exactly sure), there was a TON of research coming out re Mozart and the powers of classical music (specifically his...as a prime example) and the full range of musical patterns and chant on the human brain (which I learned about on PBS and NPR) to which you may be referring.

Since I was a classical pianist in my youth (ages 8 to 16) and a big fan of Mozart since age 8, I found this research fascinating at the time. I remember those reports quite clearly. The studies were talking about the positive effect (specifically for young students and brain-development) due to listening to (engaging in) Mozart, the musical patterns, et al. Might the book you are reading be a result of some of that research and those findings? You're right...it's very interesting.
