Re: Non-Botox gagging sensation?
Could be all of the above......or none of the above. One thing that my S.O.(significant other) has noticed is that choking on food items seems to be a regular occurrence for me(that's with out botox). The question being:Is this something that happens more frequently with SD'ers than non-SD'ers......and don't ask where it is that the food gets stuck....that's even worse!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Non-Botox gagging sensation?
How come your significant other notices it more than you do...?!!With me, food really doesn't get stuck. Occasionally I "swallow wrong" with liquids, and that irritates my throat and brings on that gaggy sensation. I don't know what this is. But my mouth feels a little dry. Maybe the change in weather? Also there's a building down the street getting their roof tarred, maybe it's the irritation from fumes?
Re: Non-Botox gagging sensation?
If you do something on a regular basis it just seems like second nature......HACK,SPUTTER CHOKE!!!@#$#^ I KNOW IT COULDN'T BE THAT GREAT CALIFORNIA AIR QUALITY.....hehehe(to indicate sarcasm)....I feel your pain.

Re: Non-Botox gagging sensation?
YES!! See "Anyone else choke during spasms?" thread.started really bad for me in June. right now and frazzled so won't discuss more. need to sleep. (infection and other stuff interfering) speech path. says it's delayed swallwoing reflex for me. wires getting crossed so to speak, worse coordination than usual. (my cordination's crap on a good day. may or may not be SD related - or only SD or ...soemthing. definitley SD is involved. HArd to sort out everything with so many other things going on.
waxing incoherent. stopping.
Re: Non-Botox gagging sensation?
Kim, I can't find this thread in the Search. When was it posted?
Re: Non-Botox gagging sensation?
Uhhh.... June. 'bout midway through.
Okay, now I've looked it up. June 22nd is when I posed the queston. Got some responses on the 23rd.

Re: Non-Botox gagging sensation?
I must be doing something wrong. There's nothing that comes up when I do a search. Even if I put the day at 154 days ago (from today, it would be 6/22). I tried looking up choke and choking, and the title thread...nothing. What exactly did you do to get to this thread? Is there a problem with the Search? Thanks.
Re: Non-Botox gagging sensation?
I have no problem when I do a search for "choke" for 160 days ago. If I do for 200 days ago I get some other stuff too from as far back as June 6th. Kim
Re: Non-Botox gagging sensation?
I finally found it, thanks. My gagging doesn't sound like it's as bad as yours...sorry to hear you've got a severe case of it. But in any form it sure is aggravating. I'm trying to remove different foods from my diet and see if it makes a difference. Right now I'm suspecting romaine lettuce, soy milk and oats. And foods with even a tiny bit of mayonaise.
Re: Non-Botox gagging sensation?
Well, it seems to have calmed down now -for the most part, though if I forget and try to do two things at once without thinking about swallowing, it's almost guaranteed that I'll at least try to choke. It comes and goes in cycles. This last throat infection wasn't bad, but the sinus infection and throat infection before that (ie. Sept. Oct.)really aggravated it. For me, it doesn't have to be food though, it can be water, or nothing at all. ...Funny, my speech path. is convinced THAT is neurological, (because it resovlved itself during a really stressful period), but won't be definite about the SD. (though the bizarre thing is she says "yes you have SD, but I'm not sure it's neurological or anxiety related". Now gee... she admits I have SD, which is, by definition a neurological condition, yet.... she isn't sure if it's neurologically related. ...Anyone else see the contradiction here?!) Kim, annoyed and confused. (but happy at her 90% on her physiological psychology midterm with the prof who can't teach!! {:~) )
Re: Non-Botox gagging sensation?
I have experienced a gagging sensation for a long time before my dysphonia kicked in.
It starts feeling like hunger, then intensifies until I dry wretch.
Usually 2 or three times. Sort of like a sneeze.
