Mayo Clinic for aB/SD?

I'm wondering if any of you have gone to Mayo Clinic for SD, especially aB/SD. The doctor who diagnosed me last week had only seen two other cases of SD, both aD, and he only made the diagnosis after I told him I wondered if this was what was wrong with me. I would feel better seeing someone who has lots of experience with this disorder to confirm the diagnosis and rule out any other neurologic problems. Mayo would be a convenient place to go since both of my daughters live nearby.

Vicki, look on Page 5 at the posting I made in November. I had just had surgery for ABSD at Mayo in Rochester with Dr. Nicolas Maragos. Also, I spent time with Dr. Joe Duffy who is the speech pathologist who is excellent at diagnosing our condition.

If you read through some of the postings I have made since then you can see the progress. I am still not convinced that I won't need Botox injections in addition to the surgery. My next appointment at Mayo is on February 13 by which time I hope that my voice is as good as it is going to get with the surgery. Right now I am still coarse sounding and I still have some of the problems that I originally had. Initially I thought it was a lot better. My condition is better but not what I had hoped for.

We are all learning as we go along. There is a lot of good information on the bulletin board.

Best wishes. Let me know how I can help you.

John. ABSD Minnesota

Hi John!

I am also a AB SD patient. I was wondering what kind of surgery you had. I am new to the group so I haven't read everything on everybody. Botox shots have not worked for me so it was suggested that I get the surgery with implants. I also had 2 surgeries where they tried to close the vocal cords with collagen and my own body fat but it didn't work either. I was hoping to find someone that has had the implan surgery to find out more about it and its results.
Hope you are doing well!
Linda

Vicki, I have not been to the Mayo Clinic but would go there if I lived closer to it. I do have a pen pal in St. Paul who goes there for Botox treatments and he is very pleased with the Clinic. Of course everyone's experience is different, but I thought this might help you.

I suspect I have AD/SD---I've talked with several family doctors over the years and they've dismissed my speech "problems". I live in northern Minnesota and could go to the Mayo Clinic if need be. Has anyone gone to the Mayo clinic for AD/SD? Thank you!

Vicki-
e-mail me at home. I think we must live in the same area.
I, too, have absd and have been to Mayo Clinic several times
for both consultations and surgery. I have positive results.

Sallie, What kind of surgery have you had and what treatments from Mayo? I must have missed your previous posts.
Katrina

Sallie, I would be interested in learning about your experience with Mayo. I saw Dr. Maragos and Dr. Joe Duffy. I live in the St. Paul area. Would you mind e-mailing me directly at jcomer@packagingcorp.com.
(I don't know how to get the e-mail addresses otherwise.

Thanks. John. ABSD Minnesota

Just a quick technical note about contacting posters by email off here.

Click on their post so that you go to read it, and in most cases at the top there will be the information: Posted by "_some name__". In many cases this will appear as a blue underlined hyperlink, which you can click on to send email to that person. The click will usually open your email program, provided your browser allows it, and you can then use that to contact the person by email.

In this post most of you will see Moderator1 at the top, underlined and in blue. If you click on that it will open your email program. If you hover your mouse cursor over it, and then look at the status bar at the bottom of the window, it will probably say "mailto dsbarton@ihug.co.nz".

David
