Subject: Drugs Recalled -- Very Important
FYI PLEASE NOTE DRUG RECALL NOTICE BELOW AND REVIEW YOUR LOCATION/PROJECT(S)FIRST AID
KITS.
Subj: Drugs Recalled
All drugs containing Phenylpropanolamine are being recalled.
Please read this carefully, as I know that some of you may use some of these drugs (Alka Seltzer Plus for one).
Also, please pass this on to everyone you know. STOP TAKING anything containing this ingredient. It has been
linked to increased hemorrhagic stroke (bleeding in brain) among women ages 18-49 in three days after starting
use of medication. Problems were not found in men, but the FDA recommended that everyone (even children)
seek alternative medicine.
The following medications contain Phenylpropanolamine:
* Acutrim Diet Gum Appetite Suppressant Plus Dietary Supplements
* Acutrim
* Maximum Strength Appetite Control
* Alka-Seltzer Plus Children's Cold Medicine Effervescent
* Alka-Seltzer Plus Cold medicine (cherry or orange)
* Alka-Seltzer Plus Cold Medicine Original
* Alka-Seltzer Plus Cold & Cough Medicine Effervescent
* Alka-Seltzer Plus Cold & Flu Medicine Effervescent
* Alka-Seltzer Plus Cold & Sinus Effervescent

* Dexatrim Caffeine Free

* Triaminic DM Cough Relief
* Triaminic Expectorant Chest & Head Congestion
* Triaminic Syrup Cold & Allergy
* Triaminic Triaminicol Cold & Cough
The person who sent this email to me added this: "I just found out and called the 800# on the container for
Triaminic and they informed me that they are voluntarily recalling the following medicines because of a certain
ingredient that is causing strokes and seizures in children:
* 3D Orange Cold & Allergy Cherry (Pink)
* 3D Cold & Cough Berry
* 3D Cough Relief
* 3D Yellow Expectorant
They are asking you to call them at 800-548-3708 with the lot number on the box so they can send you postage
for you to send it back to them, and they will also issue you a refund.
If you know of anyone else with small children, PLEASE PASS THIS ON. THIS IS SERIOUS STUFF. DO PASS
ALONG TO ALL ON YOUR MAILING LIST so people are informed. They can then pass it along to their families.
To confirm these findings please take time to check the following URL:

Whew!. That's some awesome and long list. It's a bit difficult to digest all of this (a pun, of course, re *digestion*) due to quantity.
Glad to see you posting again though because I wrote you recently and your personal e-mail had been cancelled. I was afraid you'd been killed in Nepal on your recent trip. Glad you surfaced again and that you are still alive and (hopefully) well.
The original source of all this Drug-Recall-Information is obviously important as it's a very long list and any Recall Information needs to come from a reliable and verifiable source. So many people could be affected by something like this.
Thanks for sharing what you know so that others can explore official information. Write me...and welcome back to the BB.

This particular warning is mostly accurate, but it's not new information. The FDA warning was actually issued in November 2000, more than a year ago. None of the products were actually recalled, but virtually all of them have long since been reformulated to eliminate PPA. If you have any old packages of cold, flu or appetite suppressant medication it would be worthwhile checking to see if they have PPA in them and discarding them if they do.

Good job. I subscribe to the monthly Urban Legends newsletter (the "About.com link" that you provided) but didn't have time to check it yesterday. I was sure glad to see Goly surface though.
I've found in the past two years that almost every FWD'd message (to my personal e-mail) that comes around with anything really scary in it has been documented in that online newsletter so I would recommend that we all subscribe to it. It's interesting to note how many of the "scary stories" are reconstituted with a recent date and updated information to make them current. If people do their research when they get such things, it prevents "wasted bandwidth" when people FWD'd all the hoaxes to their friends.
Thanks for posting the URL here for everyone's benefit. As always, it's important for folks to do their own research.

I have been quite successful gaining better control of my voice. Learning about certain and specific BREATHING/COORDINATION techniques have been my tools of choice + Plus other alternative health plans.
My voice is quite functional most of the time now especially a.m.I am very happy with the results
With the demands of teaching it does peter out by the end of the day, but I can get a hold of it in the morning. I am quite religious about my breathing coordination work.
Nepal was amazing beyond words. Had a magicaltime, and yes it was scary at times, fortunately did not get killed. The people were wonderfula nd scenery incridible. See Himalaya Dreaming? and Himalaya soon to be released. Take care to all, goly

Can you write me, please? I don't have an e-mail address for you.
My personal SD-path is quite dissimilar to others on the BB also. I know no other person dealing with the same syndrome that I deal with. The only thing I have in common with anyone on this Bulletin Board is that I try to support other patients seeking information and support in order to make unique medical/health decisions. And, thus, we meet all each other through the BB and become friends.
"The Voice" is everything. What I mean by that is that once the voice starts to fail (or does fail) and we reach out for support from other voice-patients, we're bonded. It really doesn't matter if we have AB or AD or MTD or whatever (in whatever severity). It matters that we all have voices which have failed us and we all need support.
I miss you. Please write. I'll see you in June up your way. I want pictures of Nepal. I was worried about you so am glad you are thriving. Also, I'm so pleased to know you've developed a personal voice-program which works for you! Different strokes for different folks and whatever works for you ~ these are the keys for all of us seeking a remedy for our vocal issues.
