Insurance

Hi I am a newbie with a problem namely insurance. The company I am with will not pay for botox. Has anyone had that problem and how did
you deal with it. We are trying to flood them with paperwork but they
are really bucking it. There is no Dr. in Wyoming to do the shots so I have to go to Denver, which is quite a drive. Has anyone else gone to Dr. Abaza at the University ENT Clinic for shots?

Thank you

Hi Linda,
I live in Denver area and used to see Karen Rhew at the Univ. ENT Dept.
I think there are also some people in Kansas, Nebraska, and Idaho who also drive down to the clinic (this was about 5 years ago). Really long drive for all of you. Before Dr. Rhew, it was Marshall Smith, but he moved to Salt Lake City (don't know if he's still doing Botox). Both of them are very empathetic and caring ENTs. Is Salt Lake closer for you? You could probably call Dr. Smith and see who does it there. Last location I have for him is at Univ. of Utah Medical Center in SLC, UT. One good thing about Karen Rhew is that she had her Masters in Speech Pathology before she went to med school. Don't know Dr. Abaza... haven't had Botox for several years.
I used to have same problem with insurance companies, so I'm afraid I can't help you there.
Regards,
Susan

Susan and Linda, Dr. Smith is indeed practicing in Salt Lake City. I have his complete address if that location would be closer to you. He not only does Botox but is also performing the SLAD/R surgery. I have met Dr. Smith. His caring attitude was very impressive to me. I don't know that Salt Lake would be any closer. However,if you are interested, please e-mail me privately and I will send you Dr. Smith's address by e-mail. Lylia Bennett

One more thing, I believe doctor's must be very knowledgeable about coding to get the insurance companies to pay for Botox as well as other procedures. I fought that for years. That would be another question to ask your medical provider.

You could also try Allergan's "BOTOX reimbursement hotline" at 800-530-6680, they might be able to offer helpful suggestions.
