Friday morning @ 9 a.m. I received my first botox injection of 1 unit in each side. Within 5 hours I started to run a fever which lasted approximately 2 1/2 days without much change in my voice. This morning I woke up sounding like me!!!! I haven't heard my voice without spasms or hoarseness in sooooo long. My husband and son are thrilled to hear me. Now, an hour later my hoarseness is back but no spasms. This is certainly a ride we go on.

Just wanted to share with all you fellow sd'ers!!

Carol, my first injection was 5 units in each cord. Overnight my voice changed. I have never had a fever after taking BoTox, therefore, I can not relate to your problem. Over a period of 11 years I received 34 injections of BoTox, most of them were two and one half units in each side. In the beginning I had two or three days of breathiness and had to be careful drinking fluids. The latter injections left me breathy for five to six weeks with a few weeks of better voice which began to break into spasms again. I decreased the doseage to .625 units and still had long periods of breathiness. I had the SLAD surgery in Jan. 2001. I have been well pleased with my new voice.

Susan, I had the SLAD surgery by Dr. Berke at UCLA in Jan. 2001. Dr. Blumin who assisted Dr. Berke at that time is now doing the surgery in Pa.

My new voice is probably very close to my voice before SD. I had the operation at UCLA on Tues. flew back to Charlotte, NC on Fri. and played bridge with my bridge club the next Wed. which was eight days after the operation. I was not put on any restrictions so I immediately went back to my normal active routine. I will answer you direct and give you more details since I have posted a lot of this on the BB previously.
