Hey, just had my first Botox shots - so this knowledge didn't stop me from having it done. Not putting it here to scare people, its more something I find very interesting, and helps us all understand why its not to be used concurrent with pregnancy and other such rules.

Botulinum toxin is not just another toxin, it is THE most poisonous substance known to humanity! Or at least the most deadly natural substance, Plutonium might be more poisonous. 1 Gram of Botulinum properly dispersed could kill 1 Million people! Its apparently been a long studied biological weapon, but because of delivery issues not one really used by any countries as far as we know.

Freaky! And I had the stuff injected into my body on Friday! But, it seems to be working, so in a few months I imagine I'll be having it again.

Ok, just wild trivia for anybody who didn't know!

Todd, this is exactly why I told my otolaryngologist that I wouldn't take an injection at the time of my diagnosis: no way would I put such a substance into my body without checking into it in depth. Since I have AB, the injection sites are on the back side of my larynx. Dr. Flint offered me two options: through the front of my larynx and out the back into the muscle, or basically around the back, which is a bit trickier for him (I gather). I told him that I will not willingly have a needle with Botox in it go across my air passage; and, to make that decision easier, he's a genius at giving the injections so they are literally pain-free -- they don't even rate as uncomfortable.

I'm one of those who is very troubled by the craze for Botox use as vanity treatment -- as if aging were a disease condition, and wrinkles something to avoid at all costs. This stuff is too serious to mess with for anything that isn't really vital. My humble, non-medical opinion.

Take care -- we all need to keep learning. There is still so much not well understood about our condition and its treatment, but I do feel optimistic that I will live to see a real cure.

All my best,

Linda Adamson

AB, Annapolis MD

Hi LInda,

I have medication induced tardive dystonia, including blepharospasm, so you can imagine how dead set against putting another toxin like botox into my system. I fought it for three years, and then I decided to try it because I was tired of not being able to keep my eyes open. Besides, I wore away my one eyebrow from holding my eyelid open! So now I get Botox injections every three months and I can drive again!! I still shudder at the thought of putting that toxin into my body, and I am invetsigating other options like acupuncture and hypnosis. I, too, believe we will live to see a cure for this dreadful dis-order.

Cheers,

DeeOR
