It's been since May 13, a little over 3 mos. and the voice has been tightening up for the past 3 or 4 weeks. I guess if you were to add it all up, I had a reasonable voice for 4 to 6 weeks. I have settled into a 3 month cycle, getting 2 units in one chord. Dr. Wilson, Cincinnati University Hospital, alternates chords every trip and does a good job of "spreading" the injection. He deliberately injects the chord at varying depths which seems to give better results. When you consider how small the vocal chords are, this is no mean feat. It's a 4 hr. roundtrip drive for me and the shots are no fun but it's not the end of the world. That 4 to 6 weeks of being able to talk somewhat normally is well worth the time, trouble and expense. I'm headed for Cincy bright and early next Monday. What a way to start the week, eh?

But the folks in Cincy are the nicest people. This time of year it's sort of a senic drive if you can keep your mind off the injection process. Say Hi to Keith Wilson and all for me. John

Hi Gavin - good to see you back posting.

Interesting point you raise about your doctor 'spreading' the injection by giving you the shots at multiple sites in the vocal cord. My doctor does that too. I think of it as a kind of insurance policy - that if one site is slightly off target the other(s) won't be.

Does your doctor inject the same cord each time, or alternate?

If the post-Botox breathiness doesn't bother you too much you could consider a higher dose in future. I used to go 4 months and am now up to 6 months between injections. Could be the higher dose I have (10 units) or maybe the underlying SD has eased off a bit? Who knows, but I'll take it.

Hello all. Just got back from the hospital and the dreaded botox injections. For the second time in the 3 years I've been having this procedure, the doctor had problems hitting the muscle and had to withdraw and re-enter. Not the most pleasant thing I've experienced. I bled a lot more this time too. All this just so I can get the occasional word in edgewise. Maybe a career change is in order....a monk perhaps with a vow of silence.

My wife is looking for a good doctor for her dysphonia. Would you mind giving us the full name and phone number of your doctor in Cinci?

Thanks,

Richard Jordan
