I've only been familiar with this bulletin board for a few months. I eagerly looked forward to attending the SD Symposium in Wash.D.C. As a new AD/SD member of quite an elite group, I was eagerly looking forward to attending this in March. However, I will have just had foot surgery and my mobility will be too limited. I'll wait until next year when I can relate to others. I'm still waiting to receive my first Botox injection this month. Could someone please tell me if these yearly gatherings are ALWAYS in the U.S., and where have they been held in the past?

Also, will a doctor NOT want to do the Botox treatment if the patient is recovering from a recent cold and has a lingering congestive cough?

Thanks to all of you for your many words of wisdom. Happy New Year!

Barb in MI.

Hello Barbara - good luck with your foot surgery, and sorry you won't be able to make the 2003 symposium.

So far the major NSDA symposiums have always been held in the US. This is a good test of my memory:

1993 Nashville

1995 Dallas

1997 San Diego

1998 Chicago

2001 (2) Detroit and Greensboro, NC

2002 Scottsdale, AZ

2003 Washington, DC

If you are interested in what went on at previous ones, there are reports on most of these posted at http://www.dystonia-support.org and click on Symposium reports.

Some doctors won't inject Botox when the patient has a cold - depends on how long your cough is lingering - if the doctor offers shots every 2 weeks, I'd wait, but if longer apart I'd try and get the shots.

Best wishes, and Happy New Year

David Barton (AD/SD, Auckland, NZ)
