Can anyone give me advice with regards to singing? I don't sing professionally, but love to sing in my Church choir. I haven't been able to sing since my first Botox injection 5 weeks ago. Any words of wisdom? Will I ever be able to sing with weakened vocol cords?

Thanks,

Lynn AD/SD Teaneck, NJ

Lynn, I probably have the very worst singing voice on the BB, but also loved to sing at church where others could not hear me too well. However, my experience was, with Botox there is no way to have any kind of singing range at all. I always knew when the Botox was beginning to wear off because I could begin singing in church again. This may not be true for all, but this was my own personal experience with singing and Botox. I had the Berke procedure July 11, 2000. I was told ging into the surgery that I would probably be unable to sing. Since I really prefer to be able to speak, as Lynn M. says, it was a "no brainer" choice for me. Singing is something that I don't do any more. However, I have become a very appreciative listener. I also had AD/SD.

I agree with Lylia. I loved singing in church and was involved with choir, before SD. SD started to mess up my range, breath control etc.

Botox made things even worse, as far as singing was concerned. The breathiness stage certainly didn't help with breath control and my range was totally destroyed. Needless to say though, I would take being able to talk anytime, over being able to sing, and botox certainly gave me a more fluent speaking voice, despite some of the other side effects that are commonly reported.

I lost my singing voice before my talking voice. Now the only time I can sing is AFTER Botox. However, I haven't had much luck with Botox recently so have just about decided not to get the injections anymore. But when they worked it was wonderful.

I, too, could sing only after I'd get my Botox (when it use to work). It's been yesrs since I got a Botox injection.

I was glad to see your posting about singing in church. That was my greatest joy since being little, singing in church with my family and also a women's trio and choirs for years. About ten years ago I noticed that I could not reach the notes or have enough breath to hold the notes too long, and my voice sounded scratchy and terrible. After a while I just quit singing, and even now I just move my lips while thinking the sounds and listening to those around me to provide the music! I just thought it was due to the MS, but now I am wondering if that was the beginning of my journey with AD/SD. I was finally diagnosed on 11/09 of last year and am having my first Botox injection in two days. Did any of you experience anything like this?

I am so glad that we have this BB to ask questions and express our thoughts. Thanks for listening! Pat, Alaska. AD/SD
