Hi Micki, Thanks for tipping us off to this. I just *now* saw it, on Oprah (4pm...PST). Too short a snip on a one-hour "Oprah-miracle-show", as always; but, fascinating and highly educational and inspiring. Ten years before I got SD (1990/1991), an *incredibly* talented young man worked for me (OK...not that young...maybe 3 years younger than me?) as a programmer/analyst in Corporate America. His stuttering was terrible (horrible/inaudible) and his voice was often impossible to understand, but his intelligence and analytical/programming skills were obvious. He was so talented, that I bet he already knows about this type of technology. Sure wish I was in touch with him now, as I developed Spasmodic Dysphonia a full decade after we last worked together. He was also forced out of the corporation, as I was, because of our "bad voices." All of this new technology, on behalf of patients, is incredible and I appreciate you tipping us off re "Oprah" today. When brain disorders affect the voice, we patient-advocates need to remind others of that. We vocal patients are not stupid, drunk or retarded, despite what others often say to us when our voices sound so bad, and their ears can't discern what we say. We sound terrible but we have brain (CNS)/neurological disorders which affect our ability to speak and communicate. It often means we are highly intelligent but can't talk. Appreciate your notice, Micki. I hardly watch TV at all, thus without your post, I'd have missed it completely. Again, Oprah did a great show which helped us all, in awareness. She's done dystonia-related snips in the past and today, she did a vocally-related snip, having nothing to do with dystonia. They all help. She's good. --Thanks, Lynne |

Thanks, Micki. I, too, watched Ophah, thanks to you. I would've never seen it without your posting it on the BB. Amazing stories. |

I just happened to catch this show too. The doctor who was one of the inventors of "Speech Easy" who was a stutterer himself was amazing! He said that he believed that he suffered so long with stuttering so that he would be able to help others cope with it. It was inspiring! Mary Bifaro
