Have just returned from a week on Martha's Vineyard!!- but thought I would share my first injection experience and how the week has gone. rec'd 2// 1.25 injections from Dr. Grillone at the BU Med Center on Monday April 21st. Other than waiting for 2 hours due to appt back-ups on "botox clinic day" - the appt went well, as he and his staff did another voice eval. then the botox injection. The shots were quite simple, the process taking less than 5 minutes. He did not use any outer anestetic, explaining that the only pain at all is a tinging when the needle hits your vocal chord. he injected into both sides, 1.25 as he explained that with first shots, it is more trial and error to find the right dosage. Since the shot, I have had a constant very soft, almost "mickey mouse" like voice. I am told that even though it is very soft, it is complete in getting the understanding of what I am trying to say. I did experience a few minor embarassments during the week, trying to order at a noisy restarurant, as well as getting a few "looks" from waitresses, etc. The feeling I have is one of a relief of tightness and although not a strong voice noise, one which seems to be able to be better understood than previously. I am hoping that things will get better during the next few days/weeks and have some sense of normalcy back.
All in all - after only being diganosed for a few weeks with AD/SD, I was able to get a botox shot in a relatively quick time line. I'm very thankful to those of you who have shared your experiences on the BB and look forward to continued info being passed along. Thanks again to all
