We are planning to retire and move to Fairhope AL in about 2 years so I did a search for doctors who do botox injections for SD. Fairhope is about 20 minutes SE of Mobile on the bay. The nearest doctors I have found so far are in Birmingham about 4 hrs. away: Dr. Charles Morgan and Dr. Shin Oh. 1) does anyone know of a doctor closer? and 2) does anyone have experience with either of the above doctors at the Univ. of Alabama hospital in Birmingham?

thanks.

Gavin

My last drive to Fairhope (a wonderful town)took about 3 hours from New Orleans. My SD doc is here in New Orleans. Please send me a private email if you want his name and address. I think very highly of him. And besides, I suspect there are more great restaurants in New Orleans than in Birmingham.

Hey Larry...

Yes not much of a decision to make there. 3 hr. drive, needle in the adam's apple, some cajun food...all in all a good full day.

Hi Gavin,

I lived in Fairhope for a few years, and also Mobile, AL. It is a wonderful area and I've missed it since my return to Denver about 12 years ago. My neurologist in Denver just happens to be from Mobile (small world), and she might know if there is a good doc in Mobile that does Botox laryngeal injections. I don't have an e-mail address for her, but you could call her: Dr. Lauren Seeberger, Dir. Movement Disorders, Co Neurology, 303-788-4600. Or, if your voice is not good right now, you can fax her at 303-788-8854. Mobile would be nice and close, Birmingham has an excellent teaching/health care hospital, and New Orleans is one of my favorite places in the world to eat! :-)

I did not have S.D. when I lived in the South, so wish I could be of more help. Enjoy your new life in Fairhope. And the Grand Hotel is such a well kept secret down there... you will love it!

-Sherry/Denver

First of all, let me say that there are some absolutely wonderful restaurants here in Birmingham! However, having lived in New Orleans for a couple of years and sampled cajun/South Louisiana cuisine - I would have to choose N.O. to win the good food award. HA!

Gavin, I have lots of experience with both Dr. Morgan and Dr. Oh. Dr. Oh gave me 27 botox injections over the past 7 years. Some "worked". Some did not. I can give you more detail if you send e-mail to my personal address. There are other Drs. here who do botox now as well. The best of luck to you. Fairhope is a wonderful town!

Thanks to all of you for the information. Larry graciously shared the name of his doctor in N.O. and looks like there are several docs doing injections in B'ham. Guess I'll have to choose between driving 4 hrs. to Birmingham or 3 hrs. to New Orleans (I can almost smell the cajun food). Sherry, I will call your doctor and see if there is someone in Mobile. That's only about 30 minutes from Fairhope which would be ideal. It's simply amazing what the internet makes possible isn't it?

Hi Gavin, I a little late in caughting your post regarding Otolaryngologists in Alabama and your furture plans to move to Fairhope, Alabama. I have lived in Alabama all my life and there are some wonderful places to eat in Birmingham, Alabama. Living in Alabama is great cause your close to the Gulf and some beautiful Beaches not to mention the Great Smokey Mountains. Both of which places I love to visit often.

I like Glynda Hailey, have much experience with both Dr's you mentioned in your post and would be more than happy to answer any questions you might have regarding my experience with these doctor's. I also went to Vanderbilt Voice Center in Nashville, Tn to get Botox injections. Dr. Stone, Courey and Garrett are highly experienced with voice disorders and giving Botox injections. Just to let you know, Glynda and I met at Dr. Shin Oh's office in Birmingham. Glynda is a wonderful sweet lady, she and I are thinking of starting an SD Support Group here in Alabama. Which is something we really need here, because we don't have one here and I suffered with Severe ADSD for 15 years prior to being allowed to try Botox. I took Botox for 2 years and then learned about Dr. Berke's surgery in LA. I had SLAD Surgery on June 12, 2001 exactly one year from Glynda. She sounds great now and so do I. I sure hope our voices stay this way always, but unfortunatley we don't know what the furture holds. However, I'm very optomistic and hopeful!

Sorry I was last about seeing your post. I sure want to try and help anyone I can with this horrible voice disorder. If I can be of assistance to you, Please do not hesitate to contact me via email.

Good Luck and perhaps when you get in Alabama we'll be able to meet face to face.

Regards, Jan Joiner - Alabama/ADSD/SLAD Surgery 6/01

Hello Jan..

Better late than never so not to worry. Thanks for the information. I learned that there doctors in New Orleans also which is about an hour closer. N.O. has some fairly decent food I'm told. Either way, heading north or west from Fairhope, looks like I'm covered. The property we own is on a golf course and with a pretty serious injury to my lower back this past May, the whole move south/golf thing is a bit iffy. It all depends on what sort of shape I'm in two years from now when my wife and I retire. Then there's the 2 grandkids and the 2 more on the way. Decisions!

Have a good weekend and thanks for the message.

gavin

Pretty decent food in New Orleans? No, wonderful food. Real food. Unlike that white paste made of flour, water and salt that passes for gravy in Alabama. Of course, the superb cuisine here has not cured my SD (thought I'd try to stay "relevant" to this BB's purpose), but then neither have Alabama's beaches (which are, I admit, so much nicer than the "beaches" here in Louisiana). Sorry about your back injury. Hope it doesn't keep you from moving to our warmer clime. Larry
