Hi Everyone, I was just reading back through the archives and someone mentioned that before being dignosed with SD, the doctor thought that she may have a sinus infection. That was very interesting to me because only this morning I woke up thinking that I may have a sinus infection because I cough all the time. Thinking back, I do remember that at the onset of my SD around 7 years ago, I had an infection and took antibiotics and my voice improved. Hummmm. Voice/Antibiotics. Never really put the two together until now. I haven't been on antibiotics since then. Wonder if they could help?? Doris St. Clair AD/SD

Dear Doris, Please look at "some SINUS TIPS" that I added to my website. To read these, go to http://cantbreathesuspectvcd.com/page10.html and scroll down to APPENDIX A: some SINUS TIPS. These SINUS TIPS don't involve antibiotics, yet they are very, very effective. My husband and I learned these "TIPS" from the excellent book called SINUS SURVIVAL, by Dr. Robert Ivker, D.O., who wrote the book because he had finally found many ways to gently treat his own sinus problems! My website is about VCD (Vocal Cord Dysfunction) that sometimes overlaps with some types of SD, such as "Respiratory (breathing) type of Adductor SD." Good luck! Carol

Hi! I've suffered with chronic sinusitus beginning about five years ago. When my sinus problems began, my voice problems also began. At first I chalked everything up to possible allergies because I had just gotten a dog who lived in the house (as opposed to an outside dog). I wasn't diagnosed with any allergies though, and my sinus problems and voice problems worsened until my doctor diagnosed SD. The interesting thing to me is that when I have a sinus infection, especially if it has descended into my chest, my voice improves dramatically. I still sound as if I'm congested, but the cracking is not there and I sound like a person with just a cold. I end up talking a LOT when that happens because I'm trying to make up for lost talk-time! I just got married last year and was dreading standing up in front of all those people reciting my vows sounding like I am crying (which is how I sound most of the time when my voice is cracking). Luckilly for me I caught a bad cold three days before my wedding and though I felt miserably sick I was SO happy that my voice was there!! As far as antibiotics go, I don't always go on antibiotics when I get a sinus infection because I don't want my body to get used to them, but even when I'm not on them my voice improves because of the chest congestion (I think, anyway). Isn't that strange though? I feel like I am coming on a cold again lately. See my related post under "Good days, Bad days" If we could only recreate that block of time, during a cold. Larry
