Hey everyone! I am so happy that we are up and running again! Wheew! So, I am kind of perplexed in the sense that I have found that when I tell people about my SD, there are certain people that when they speak to me, I can hear a noticeable break in their voices sometimes. Which brings me to the following question... Could their possibly be another factor that somehow triggers the same spasm in a normal voice, but caused by something totally different? I hope that makes sense! I work with deaf children in an elementary school, and the teacher that I work with knows about my SD. So after I had explained what I knew about my disorder to her, I have now noticed a breakage in her voice from time to time. I am very facinated with this disorder, and the effects that it has on certain people that have been "ignorent" if you will, about their own voices. I am intrigued also that we are not born with this condition. For me it was as if it came on so suddenly. Particulary when I became VERY AWARE of my voice. And as every year went by it got worse and worse. As I became more and more AWARE. I would really love and appriciate it if anyone reading this could resond with similar opinion and your own interpretations and experiences regarding the all too familar AWARENESS of ones voice. Thanks so much, Kassy

I have AB SD, I started working with my 9 year old, a few months ago, before my voice got really bad. He had beed having problems with pronouncing his "R"s, only on certain words. His teacher suggested speech may be needed. I brought this to his attention and he got very upset. I backed off on drawing his attention to it. He then began to have a slight stutter. He is now having a break in his speech, which scares me. The break is slight, and comes in the middle of sentences. My husband thinks it is because he is thinking hard about what to say next. I am worried this could be sd. I could'nt bear for him to have to suffer this. Not one person in my family has ever had this, except me! I want to keep it that way. That could be a problem, though, the drawing of attention to ones speech can cause further problems. I hope not sd. I learned to leave my son alone and hopefully he will adjust this out on his own. |
