I have a problem that I haven't heard anyone else mention, but am wondering if there are others who experience the same thing. My vocal cord spasms really get uncomfortable, especially if I've done much talking, or by the end of the day. This continues even when I'm not talking. One of the only things that relieves the discomfort is eating. It seems to be the chewing/swallowing that interrupts the spasms. Obviously this is not a good thing weight-wise. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and how you cope--other than eating too much. Vici -- ABSD/Illinois |

Vici, this is very intriguing, and clearly unsettling for you. I haven't heard, to date, that the spasms of SD ever showed up except during vocalization -- and then not all forms of vocalization are involved for all SDers. I understand some can still sing when their talking voice is junk, for example (wish I could! gosh, I miss singing to my grandkids). Re the eating too much, I guess I'd say to go for the veggies. But I'd really love to know if others have spasms apart from vocalization. And if you were to develop the spasms while swallowing, there's another potential problem. I wonder if Dr. Christie Ludlow at NIH knows anything about the type of spasms you are experiencing.
Please let all of us know if you get any medical info on this. all my best to you, Linda Adamson AB Annapolis MD |
