Hi, I'm a new poster to this board. I have SD (I'm not sure which type, abductor or adductor - I have the most trouble initiating words with vowels). After I've been talking a lot, my vocal cords seems to become painful and it hurts to talk a lot. Is this a sign of something else more serious, or could it be related to the spasmodic dysphonia? Do other people have any similar experiences/symptoms??? Trec |

Yeah, I have this happen all the time. Not as much as it used to , usually anyways, but still quite a bit. It's particularly bothersome when it feels like the muscles in that area are tying themselves into knots, although also when it's just a tired/exhausted kind of pain. I've heard lots of people on this board talk about how pain is not usually associated with SD, but that it does happen, but always after that I always hear of a LOT more people talking about how it DOES cause them pain, so take that for whatever it's worth. Maybe it's just under-reported. Kim |

I don't know if I would call it pain, more like fatigue. Kind of like that feeling in ones legs after a very long bike ride. I think it's because we have to work twice as hard to get out the same sounds. I know sometimes I feel tired after a long phone call. The botox seems to help with that. Karen |
